Synchro is a low-power scheduling module designed to eliminate wasted energy during oceanographic deployments.
It ensures instruments are powered only when they are actually needed, dramatically extending deployment duration when operating on batteries. By fully disconnecting systems outside of logging windows, Synchro prevents idle drain and preserves valuable energy. Simple, reliable, and autonomous, it enables longer missions without increasing battery size or system complexity.

Synchro is a compact power scheduler developed to maximize autonomy in battery-powered oceanographic systems, particularly when used alongside SIDEKICK instrument hubs. In many deployments, instruments and data handlers consume power even when no measurements are being recorded. Synchro addresses this inefficiency by acting as a hard power gate, fully disconnecting downstream systems during inactive periods and reconnecting them only at user-defined times.
At the core of Synchro is a real-time clock (RTC) powered by a dedicated coin cell, ensuring accurate scheduling even during long power-off intervals. Power switching is handled by a high-side MOSFET, providing reliable and low-loss control of the main supply. The control electronics are powered independently by standard AAA batteries, allowing Synchro to operate autonomously while the primary battery pack remains completely isolated. Users configure on-time windows and cycle intervals through a simple firmware interface running on a compact microcontroller, making setup fast and accessible without specialized expertise.
Designed as a practical field tool, Synchro prioritizes predictability, ultra-low standby consumption, and ease of configuration. It is especially well suited for deployments where instruments operate intermittently, such as scheduled imaging, burst sampling, or duty-cycled sensor operation. By removing background power draw between acquisition periods, Synchro enables significantly longer deployments using the same battery resources, making it a natural companion to PowerCore battery packs and SIDEKICK instrument hubs.
