SIDEKICK Endurance is a low-power variant of the SIDEKICK instrument hub, developed to support long-duration deployments where energy efficiency is the primary constraint. It is designed for sensor-focused payloads such as CTDs, fluorometers, and radiometers, where instruments operate continuously or on simple duty cycles and data volumes remain modest. By prioritizing reduced power draw and simplified system architecture, SIDEKICK Endurance addresses use cases traditionally served by legacy low-power data handlers.
At its core, SIDEKICK Endurance uses a compact, low-consumption computing platform capable of running the Sixclear JADE software environment, enabling consistent configuration and data workflows across the SIDEKICK family. The system supports up to three serial instruments through an isolated RS-232 to USB interface and uses a simplified power architecture in which instruments are powered together as a group. While SIDEKICK Endurance does not support video or high-bandwidth peripherals, it provides ample onboard storage for long-term sensor logging and maintains synchronized timestamps across all data streams. Two enclosure configurations are planned: a titanium 6Al-4V version rated to 3,500 m for deep deployments, and a PEEK enclosure with stainless steel endcaps rated to 200 m for shallow and coastal applications. As with other SIDEKICK systems, a status LED provides immediate visual feedback on system health and error conditions.
SIDEKICK Endurance is currently undergoing evaluation and validation. We are sharing this concept to gauge interest and engage with users who have long-duration, low-power deployment needs.
